What I learns for this week is we must win people heart if we wants them to do something for us. In the first week i found that i lost control my year 3 pupils because i dont know what they wants. Now, i can handle them easily because i know what they wants.i can use what they wants to motivate them to study.who perform well in my class, i will give rewards at the end of the lesson. i found that strategy is working.

This is second week I am in school for teaching practice. In school, I am teaching year 3 and year 5. For year 3, I am given difficult class which is the achievement of the students in that class is not good in many subjects. For year 5 I am given the most brilliant class which they are good in all subjects. I can handle year 5 very well although they are 45 students in the class but it is still hard for me to control year 3 because they are the naughtiest pupils in year 3. I need to use psychology to tackle them to study. If not they would not study. What I did is, I give them card. I ask them to write their name in the card. If they are good and give cooperation during teaching and learning, I will give them sticker. At the end of the practicum, I will give present to pupils who collect the most many stickers from me.
Overall, I enjoy my practicum. I learnt new experience.

In this week we still continue learning about syntax. I enjoy the lecture and the activity carried out by the lecturer. I like her way by giving us chances to practice doing what we just learnt. Besides, I like the one more things is that she willing to check the sentences that we constructed. I realize that not all lecturer willing to spend time checking student work especially if it just practices work.
Second things that we did in this week are we have been constructed vocabulary games. There are 3 groups who presented their work in this week but our group has to present it next because we have not enough time to present it in this week.
The first group who presented their work was Sharon’s group. In my opinion, their games is hard to be handled if only one teacher teaching in the class. May be teacher will lost control the class. This is because teacher need to calculate the mark, write missing words, and so on. The second group was Jacqueline’s group. Their games is really suitable to teach primary school. It is easy to handle and to control the class when carry out the games. The last group is Shirley’s group. Their games also suitable to teaching primary school. It can helps students develop their vocabulary. I likes the way their construct the games which they relate it with mathematics concept.

In this week I had learnt about morpheme. This is not new topics because I had learnt this during my foundation course but it is in Bahasa Melayu. For this time I have to learn it in English. Morpheme is a combination of sounds that have a meaning. There are two types of morpheme which is free and bound morpheme. Free morpheme means a word or morpheme that can stand on its own and has a grammatical function while bound morpheme means that a morpheme that cannot stand its own and does not have a grammatical function. For example, the word cutter. For this word cut is a free morpheme and ter is a bound morpheme because it doesn’t have meaning if it is doesn’t combined with cut. Besides, I also learnt about inflectional morpheme and derivational morpheme. All these things seem likes complicated. I hope I can catch up every lesson so that I can understand this topic and I will not have any difficulty during the exam at the end in this semester.

In this week we have done the tutorial that I said that we were not finished it yet in my previous reflection. The focus of the tutorial is language function which we were required to do a role play where the audiences required to identifying the language function that has been used in the role play. I enjoy the role play very much because it gives me experience to involve in English conversation.
Besides, I also learnt about the minimal pair. When I surf the internet, I found there are many word in the category. But I have problem where I can not identify what is initial, medial, and final. I hope in the next lesson my lecturer will explain more about this.
Lastly, I have learnt about phonetic symbol and how to say every alphabet in British sound. I enjoy the lesson very much. But I just worry whether I can remember the sound in long term or I will forget it soon. Hopefully I can remember all.
Is Silence always golden? January 18, 2009

For me silent or speak is depend on situation. There are times that we should open our mouth and say something and there are times we should remain silent. Let me give examples when we should speak and when we should remain silent.
According to Islam we should speak when we asked about knowledge that we know which everybody should also know about the knowledge. In this situation we should not remain silent. How is if we asked about something and we are not really sure whether the answer that we have is correct or wrong? According to Islam, if it is about ‘hukum’ we should not give comment and we better asked that person to refer to someone that has better understanding. It is because if we ourselves not sure about it, it is scared that we get sin. This means, we better silent if we don’t know.

Before I came to Institute for this semester I said to myself that in semester 5 I should have a blog. When I came here, I really have to make a blog because I’m asked to do so. I hope, I can learn many things about blog through this subject for the future purpose.
Firstly in these two weeks, I have learned about the definition of language and about language and culture. About this topic, we have to do a presentation about how culture affects language and we have presented it in second week. During the presentation, Iskandar and me were not in the class because we have to go to school and discuss with school administration about program that we will do in school. Because of that, only two of our group members were presented our things. But, the night before that, we did it together and everybody has to do a point and my point is educational policies. I have chosen Fairuz to present my point during that day.
Then, we were introduced about the function of language and non-verbal communication. For this, we have to do a role play. We have choose a role play about drinking tea where Iskandar and me go to Fairuz room and asked for tea. If you want to know the story, wait for our role play.
After that, we have learnt about speech organ, and English sounds such as the vowel and diphthong sounds. For the vowel and diphthong sounds, we had learnt them before. It is during our PPISMP and the lecturer was Mr. Camillus Ong. During that time I think that Mr. Camillus have taught us quite detail about the phonetic sound and symbols. I think that he is good because he is able to speak fluently in British pronunciation. When he taught us about that topic I am sure that he taught us how to pronounce the word correctly. For this topic, we have to do a mime. In this mime I played a role as student who has stomachache.
